Vascular Awareness

Yesterday, I had a pretty awesome experience.

A patient came in to tell me how I likely saved his life.

Frankly, I didn’t do anything heroic. I just did what we should do as the premier providers of foot and ankle care in the world.  I listened, examined, and made proper recommendations.

Watch this week’s video to learn more.

It has become increasingly more important for us to carefully assess the vascular status of our patients, each and every time they visit us. Things can change quickly and it can mean the difference of severe problems, loss of limb and loss of life.

We are seeing more people and pathology with vascular problems and in many cases, we are the first to see and diagnose it.

Historically, Podiatrists have no problem getting x rays on patients who are new or have new problems….as we should.  However, we haven’t been nearly as diligent about vascular issues. Palpating pulses just isn’t adequate.  There are more advanced diagnostics we should be implementing in our offices and have an appropriate referral process in place when needs arise.

Be better at recognizing vascular disease and you may end up saving a life.

Have a great week.
