Why I Love Podiatry

Recently there has been a lot of banter in online forums, like PMNews, about people not recommending their children becoming Podiatrists. Unfortunately, the discussions have focused on a lot of negativity and complaining.  In the discussions each person has a valid complaint about the state of podiatry and why they would be hesitant about recommending podiatry to their children.  

I was a bit shocked at all the negativity.  Sure, there are things that could be better, but Podiatry is awesome.

Interestingly, recent surveys to physicians of all specialties show that most would not recommend medicine to their children, and most would choose another profession or specialty.

I got into Podiatry because I saw the joy my dad got out of his career and patient care.  I saw all the patients when we were out and about in the community thanking my dad for his care.  I saw the positive impact he made in their lives.

I don’t regret that I went into Podiatry for even a second.  Both my wife and I are very happy Podiatrists.

We have three children and none of them will pursue Podiatry….not because they got negative feels from us but because they wanted to pursue their own interests.  They still want to know what is going on with patient care, surgery and in the business.  In fact, my daughter is going into foot and ankle medical device sales in New York City this fall. 

Here’s my point:  Podiatry is awesome.  We should celebrate why it’s great and pass the message to our community and those who are viewing it from the outside.
