I’ve been in practice for nearly 26 years, and I’ve seen practice managers come and go, more frequently than I care to admit. I remember of the times many years ago when I would promote the longest tenured employee who was really good at their job as an MA or billing person. With that promotion came my expectation of them also being great as an overall leader.
It rarely turned out well and more often worse than that.
In looking back, we didn’t do enough to provide those really good people the skills and support to be successful. Their failure was really our failure.
It wasn’t until we realized that we had to be better for our leaders that our business started to really move forward.
