Recently I was talking to some people about what is different with my practice today than ten years ago. There are a lot of clinical things that have subtly changed in the last decade, however none that compare to how I evaluate and deal with nerve problems.
I was trained that nerve problems of the foot were rare and mostly due to diabetic neuropathy.
Today I look at the possibility of nerve related issues causing my patient’s problems entirely differently. As a result, I’m a better doctor and my patients are much happier.
I have found that nerve problems are quite common and can come from a variety of sources including spine/back problems, local foot and ankle issues and other systemic causes.
I talk about how I deal with these issues in this weeks video.
I feel a lot of other specialties don’t do a good job of associating nerve issues and foot/ankle problems which is another thing that sets our profession apart from others who think they know the foot and ankle.
Have a great week.
