We have had many “practice managers” over the years. They’ve had different titles: Office Manager, Practice Manager, Director of Operations, Chief Operating Officer.
Some of them were good. Some of them were disasters.
Some were promoted from within. Some were hired from the outside.
At times in the past, we have become frustrated with the lack of success and costs of this person and have tried to function without one specific non-physician leader.
That usually ended badly with partners not happy with anything.
There are some common denominators when it comes to success or failure at that position, and it is usually a LEADERSHIP issue. The person chosen for the position lacks the leadership skills to be successful and the owner/CEO/partners do a poor job of leading the Manager.
In this week’s video, I talk about when to hire a Manager and the thoughts to get you there.
Have a great week.
