I hear it every year without fail. The end of January and the month of February are slow patient volume times for most of the country. I hear it from some of the busiest doctors at the Weil Foot & Ankle Institute as well as other very successful doctors around the country. I have personally felt it every year of my more than 23-year career.
There are several causes for it. New deductibles make people think twice about going to the doctor for things they think may get better on their own. Many people just avoid doing things during the bad weather during this time of year.
It happens. It’s not the end of the world. The patient volume will pick up. It always does.
So instead of freaking out, like so many people do, use the time productively.
While a little late to make this recommendation, I always schedule travel this time of year. It gets me out of the crappy weather and doesn’t put me in a situation where I wonder where the patients are.
Another great thing to do with the time is to work on your business and not in your business.
